Department of Tourism Management

Origins
In order to cope with the highly booming tourism industry in Taiwan, Department of Tourism Management therefore was established in 2005 to cultivate talented students in this field.


Educational Goals
The department aims to develop students’ potential competence for tour planning, designing, operating, and service in a practical as well as theoretical aspect, to provide entry and middle management level professionals for the increasing demand of the industry.


Programs
We offer four-year bachelor’s degree programs (day and night school division) , and a continuing education program for two-year college students.


Special Features

  • Cabin Classroom, set up with 54 cabin seats donated by Eva Air, enables students to experience real-life situations on a flight.
  • By working with academic institutions, leisure and recreation industries, students are trained to combine local culture and businesses to develop the ability of creating tourist highlights.
  • Using resources from related industries, local communities and the government to create win-win situations for tourism development.
  • Through one-year internship, students can work and learn in travel-related industries , such as travel agencies, hotels and tourist attractions with the chance to integrate theory with practice for future career development. Students are also encouraged to complete internship aboard to enhance foreign language skills and gain international perspectives.

 

  • To equip students to be tourism professionals and increase their career opportunities, the department has opened classes related to getting the certificates of tour leaders, guides, docents and travel councilors.
  • Several Computer Reservation System software, such as  ABACUS and Cowell, have been purchased to familiarize students with operating different types of tourism software.  The Travel and Ticketing Classroom has been set up for online learning and practice.

 

Faculty
The department is composed of faculty members with doctoral and master’s degrees. Prestigious experienced members in the industry are also invited to teach related courses to offer students firsthand tips at workplace.

Language lab, electronic booking systems, tour agent for internship, meeting room, the hotel reception desk, housekeeping room, spa, fitness room and restaurant for internship.


Curriculum
Curriculum are designed according to the needs of the industry, such as certificate counselling, meeting and exhibition planning, recreation operation, tour conducting, deportment training, tour designing, tourism management and resource integrated marketing.


Career Prospects
There are many career opportunities for the graduates. They can work as tour conductors, tour planners, travel agents, tour leaders/managers, tour guides, museum docents, government officials, clerks at hotels, theme parks , amusement parks, ranches, national parks, and so on.
