◎History
The department of pharmacy was founded in 1966, as the keystone department of Tajen Junior College. Initially, the school system was based on a 5-year college program that enrolled graduates from junior high schools. In 1999, the Ministry of Education granted this department the permission to start the two-year bachelor program. As Tajen grew in both size and quality, its five-year junior college system became obsolete and was ended in 2000 and replaced with a four-year bachelor program. Furthermore, in order to maintain the high caliber of Tajen graduates, and to keep up with the institute,s visions to outperform its peers, we took an unprecedent measure to add an additional year of curriculum to the existing four-year bachelor program.
◎Educational Objective
The objective of this department is to prepare students as competitive pharmaceutical specialists with excellent trainings in both scientific and liberal arts curriculum.
◎Special Features
The Department has top-notched faculties and pharmaceutical R&D laboratories, such as the Chinese Herbal Center. It prepares students with sound knowledge of pharmaceutical science and plenty of hands-on experience.
◎Faculty Members
There are 34 specialized faculty members, 24 of which have PhD degrees with honors. The Department consists of 3 full profesors, 20 associate professors, and 6 assistant professors .
◎Teaching and Research Facilities
Our facilities includes several specialized research laboratories, among them, the Chinese Herbal Shop (the Chinese Herbal Medicinal Center ) , the Dispensary Laboratory, the Dosage Preparation Laboratory, the Animal Testing Laboratory, and the Department Library. The major research facilities includes a 400 MHz NMR spectrometer, High Performance Liquid Chromatography apparatus, Gas Chromatography apparatus, Infrared Spectrophotometers, Ultraviolet-Visible Spectrophotometers, Amino Acid Analyzer, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), Freeze-dryer, Ultra High Speed Centrifuge, Revolving Cylinder Tester and Dissolution Cylinder Testers and Dissolution Testers.
◎Curriculum Description
The curriculum includes, but not limited to, pharmaceutical biology, pharmacology, pharmaceutics and biopharmaceutics, pharmacognosy, pharmaceutical practice, pharmaceutical chemistry, compendious drug analysis, clinical pharmacy and therapeutics, and drug marketing and management. New courses and supplemental laboratory courses are also added from time to time.
◎Career prospectives
The Department prepares students for the civil or the public service entrance examination or the national examination for pharmacist. Consequently, students can pursue higher education, become a qualified pharmacist or work within the civil or public health systems. Our highly diverse curriculum also prepares our graduates to be Able to work outside their own academic fields.
