Tajen University

The Department contains a 2-year-junior college program and a four-year-senior college program.

◎Innovation/History
The department was founded in 1988. A five-year senior high school/junior college combined program was initially approved and established. The two-year-junior-college program was certified in 1990. In 1994, a two-year-junior-college night program was certified. Furthermore, a two-year-senior-college program was certified in 1999 and a four-year-college program was certified in 2000.

◎Educational Feature
Special attributes are to educate professional occupational safety and hygiene managers, promote the quality of occupational safety and hygiene management within Taiwan's work environment, improve the work place environment and reduce occupational injuries, and improve relations between employer and employee.

◎Special Feature
This Department offers training classes for Work Environmental Hygiene Monitoring programs permitted by The Council of Labor Affairs of The Executive Yuan. Moreover, another aspect of this Department is to promote Taiwan's level of occupational safety and hygiene professionalism.

◎Faculty situation
The department has 33 full-time teaching staff, including 9 associate professors. All faculties are very active both in teaching and research. Presently 11 teachers are pursuing doctorial degrees.

◎Facilities and instrument
All facilities and instruments are state of the art. Facilities include a Work Environment hygiene monitoring experiment laboratory, a Practical Occupational Safety & Health laboratory, a Labors physiology laboratory, an Instrumental Analysis laboratory, a Chemical Analysis laboratory, and a multi-media classroom. Furthermore, the laboratories contain such equipment as an Audiometer, an Ultrasonic Flow Detector, s Spectrophotometer, a Phase Contrast Microscope, a Noise Dose Meter, a Flow Calibrator, an UV, a GC, an AA, a CE, etc.

◎Courses description
The specialized curricula are composed of Introduction to Occupational Safety, Introduction to Occupational Hygiene, Occupational Safety Management, Occupational Hygiene Management Work Environmental Monitoring, Labor Safety & Health Law, Industrial Psychology, Fire Incident & Explosion, Occupational Disaster & Paramedic, Applied Statistics, Human Factors &Application, Prevention & Treatment of Environment Pollution, etc. The laboratory courses and field trips are also required.

◎Career Prospects
Graduates posse the qualifications required of Occupational Safety & Hygiene management staff and are well positioned to take the qualifying examination for Specialists in Industrial Safety and Hygiene. Graduates are also able to conduct research in occupational safety & hygiene instrumentation. Graduates are also well equipped for advanced studies.
