Class Program
This Department was originally named Department of Public Nuisance Control. The five-year-junior-college program was funded in 1983, and the two-year-junior-college program was established in 1991. Tajen was promoted to a college and this Department has set up a two-year-senior-college program. Up to 2002 this department will consist of: a two-year-senior-college program, a four-year-college program, a five-year-junior-college program and a two-year-junior-college program.
◎Educational Objectives
The educational objectives include not only the cultivation and nurturing of specialized knowledge and skills in students, but also personality shaping. The students are required to take specialized courses as well as General courses, such as liberal art courses. It is intended that students become educational well balanced.

- An Environment Management Graduate program is to be instituted in September 2002.
- A state of the art Bio-Toxicity research center was established in 2001 to study via bioassay and chemical methods.
◎Faculty Members
Faculty members are composed of distinct scholars in environmental protection, professors of solid hands-on experience in contamination control and several senior directors from Environmental Protection Associations. Presently thirty teaching staff hold either a PhD or MS degree. In addition, there are several professors who hold Professional Environmental Engineering licenses. This Department continues to conducted many research projects funded by the National Science Council of ROC and the Environmental Protection Administration of ROC.
◎Facilities and Equipment
Every class is assigned a regular classroom and provided with the latest teaching equipment. The professional laboratories contain, but are not limited to: Environmental Health Water Quality Analysis, Environmental Unit Operation Analysis, Chemistry Noise Control, Solid Waste Analysis, and Advance Equipment Labs. Every lab is well equipped and sufficient for basic experiments. In addition, there is ample state of the art equipment for advanced research by students and professors, such as: ICP, AA/GAA, IC, GC, UV/vis, GC/MS, HPLC etc.
◎Course Description
Due to expanding fields in environmental sciences, this Department continuously incorporates social needs, and new research finding into its academic specialties. At the present time, the courses cover the following specialized fields: water and groundwater pollution and control, air pollution and control, solid waste management, soil pollution and control, ecology, environmental toxicity, noise control, natural resources conservation, environmental law, and environment planning and management.

Prospects after Graduation Career prospects
- The graduates can participate in public exams to work for the EPA, wastewater treatment plants, incinerators, etc. Furthermore graduates may be engaged in environmental engineering and environmental science projects.
- Graduates can enroll in specialized training programs in air quality control, industrial waste disposal, wastewater treatment and hazardous chemical material treatment to earn certificates and work in environmental protection organizations.
3.Graduates can join private consulting firms or seek research positions in academic institutions.

- Graduates of the two-year senior and four-year college program are well qualified to enter graduate programs.
- Junior college graduates are especially qualified to take exams for further education within two-year-senior college programs of Institutes of Technology.
