Tajen has rapidly moved from a
junior college to a modern technical institute. This change necessitated,
in 1999, the establishment of the Office of Research and Technology Development
(ORTD) to replace the original Office of Career Development and Counseling.
Its function is to re-organize Tajen's research resources. This is to
be accomplished by upgrading researcher's knowledge and skills in research,
providing excellent practical training places for students, achieving
a close linkage between Tajen and industry, and producing competitive
professional graduates that are socially responsible, discipline, conscientious
and have a high level of integrity. Furthermore, it is also the office
responsibiling to ensure that students have the necessary knowledge and
skills to serve the industry and communities vis-a-vis satisfying market
needs while serving the public.
The ORTD comprises the Research and Planning Unit, the External Affairs
and Cooperation Unit, and the Career and Counseling Unit. The responsibilities
of each unit are as follows:
(1)The Research and Planning Unit
1.Coordinating and assisting researchers in applying for grants from the
National Research Council, Ministry of Health and other granting agencies.
2.Coordinating the application, reviewing and allocation of Tajen's research
grants.
3.Preparing guidelines and related issues pertaining to the awarding of
research excellence awards.
4.Promoting close research collaboration between the Tajen and industry.
5.Responsible for the reviewing, editing and publishing of the Tajen Journal.
6.Providing services and information on scientific research and collaboration.
(2)The External Affairs and Cooperation Unit
1.Assisting the different departments in developing and establishing scientific
collaboration and partnerships with other research institutions.
2.Promoting international scientific exchange and establishment of sister
relationships between Tajen and other research organizations, both local
and abroad.
3.Participating in scientific activities that are both academic and industrial
based.
4.Assisting researchers to render services and consultancy to industry
and other research organizations.
5.Establishing the up and down-stream partnership between vocational and
non-vocational schools and institutions.
6.Providing assistance in developing and implementing training and retraining
programs for industry.
7.Assisting alumni in promoting various activities.
(3)The Career and Counseling Unit
1.Coordinating and arranging external training and site-visit programs
for students.
2.Providing training to teachers on how to access to external training
programs.
3.Coordinating with manpower organizations in order to obtain present
and future employment opportunities for students; the unit also provides
counseling services on job seeking skills and career development.
4.Keeping in contact with alumni, as well as analyzing and understanding
their career development needs.
5.Organizing on campus job recruitment activities and preparing career
development booklets for graduating students. |
