Mr. Taoyi Huang, the incumbent Chairman of the Board, and Mrs. Yuan Tsai Lee, founded Tajen Institute in 1966. The present President is Dr. Rhei-Long Chen. Tajen has seen itself grow and prosper during the last thirty-seven years. When the Institute was established, there was only one Department of Pharmacy, a five-year program for junior college students. In 1980 other Departments were established. Since its foundation, Tajen has been implementing its motto and pursuing the goal of becoming an excellent Institute of higher learning. We have achieved this and have gained recognition from the Ministry of Education and society-at-large. Consequently, Tajen has been upgraded from a five-year junior college to a university-level Institute with affiliate five-year junior college programs since August 1st 1999 by permission of the Ministry of Education. Moreover, in order to carry out the educational policy of life-long learning, Tajen provides various programs such as a two-year bachelor program for Junior college graduates, and another two-year program for high school graduates. Currently, the student population of this Institute exceeds Fourteen thousand.
◎Our present campus covers a scenic area of thirty hectares; the second campus is under construction. We plan to build department centers, sport facilities (including a golf practice field, a warm-water swimming pool, etc), and it is expected to become an excellent institute of higher education. Presently each department is equipped with state of the art teaching facilities. This allows teachers, staff and students to use cutting edge technology throughout the learning process.
◎For example,
the new Administration Building contains a high technology Library and
Information Center. Advanced information management equipment allows for
a worldwide computer assisted information search at several stations within
the library. In fact, even the check out system is computerized.
◎Tajen consistently places importance on teaching quality and research.
Consequently more than 90% of staff has a Masters degrees or PhDs.
